It is very likely the same bird that you had last year. They do tend to remember where their feeders, flowers and nesting areas are from year to year and returnon or about the same time to the same areas as long as there is food and protection for them.

A recent study showed that they have a long memory,so it would well be the same one.

In years past, I waited til the birds appeared before I put out feeders. The 1st scouts were obviously returning birds because they would sit on the wire hanger (before the feeder was hung). Its only a foot from the door, in a protected corner...a spot of no interest unless the bird was familiar.

I put the feeder out early last year, and attracted this early bird! I'm convinced this is the same bird.

Sparky they will return to the same spot that they remember having a feeder. I hear accounts of them coming to hooks or trees all the time looking for their feeder from the previous year.

Oh, I better get a new window hanger. I lost the one from last year and only have the feeder with no way to hang it on the window. Poor birds will go hungry waiting on me.
