Cathy, I am not too far from you as I am in western NY 90 miles from Erie Pa. The earliest I have hung a feeder is the middle of April although I do have a feeder out right now. It has actually been out all winter since we do occasionally get a vagrant Rufous during the winter. I believe the earliest reports last year were around the middle of April so as long as the weather is cooperating you could hang your feeder around the first of April. Just make sure to keep it clean and fresh.

Hi Cathy, last year I had an early one. I think it was April 3rd or 4th, I can't remember. It was maybe 2 weeks earlier then the year before. Cathy :) I'm In southern Westchester county

That's when my first one will go out, cathy!! I'm in SE OH - Washington County. I'll just put out a Mini Hummzinger for a week or so....then another come tax day, .....I get anxious too. I hope they will return as soon as temperature and food availability will permit.
2004 was the first year I put out a feeder. Saw my first one that year on 4/21. Last year I saw my first one on 4/16. I get pretty high traffic here for the Midwest. Counted 22 birds at one feeding following a rain last Aug.

I'm in new york state about 2 hrs from buffalo (elmira ) and i cant wait to see all my babie's!!! Oh its been such a long winter..I'll hang mine the first week of april not to long from now.. :o)

I just changed the nectar again in my overwintered feeder this morning. I usually don't see my first hummer until the end of April or the first part of May at the earliest. There hasn't been any movement northward in several days so they are still staying close to the coast until it starts to warm up a little more.

Hi - I'm here in West-Central MD and I put my feeder out April 1 (no fooling here!). According to last year's map, they arrived near me April 11 so just in case this warm weather was making them anxious, I put mine out early. Funny though, two years ago I put my feeders out late and I couldn't figure out where all the nectar was going (I wasn't an avid watcher at that point) and just thought the wind was blowing it around - little did I know that I had some small bird friends!! As long as we keep the nectar fresh, I don't see the harm - it's like a "Glad you're here" sign if that makes sense!!

Also, the map says that one showed up in SE MD on April 1 - they'll be here soon!!! Yipee!!
