I would put in some superbells, fuchsia, geranium, petunia, and a little hummingbird feeder to reel them in. Also, where are your boxes located? Sometimes hummers are scared to go near streets and places with too much noise.

I do have hummer feeders close by. My yard is usually filled with flowers........so maybe they're just too happy and full to come to the deck! And we live out in the country, so it's pretty quiet.

We lived in the suburbs and still had hummers everywhere. We had Blue-veined Surfinias in the window boxes. They smell heavenly but are a bit hard to find. The Hummers loved them. I planted them in our country home this year. I drove an hour each way to get them from a MD nursery. Hummers love them here, too!

Try some Salvia Coccanea ('Summer Jewel' series, 'Lady in red') or if you have room, I would highly recommend you get a good sized pot and put in Salvia Guaranitica 'Black and Blue" and get a second feeder for the deck, or move the other feeder to the deck.

I got some red Salvia last year and never saw a hummer at them. Does the type of salvia (red) make a difference?

I planted 2 of the 3 deck boxes and used an assortment of dwarf snapdragons and the other is petunias. I still have to fill the 3rd one.

I have some small watergardens and have some Lucifer Crocosmia planted there. They love that!

Hands down best box plant for me is Cuphea llavea 'Bat faced cuphea'. The birds use it non stop and it is right up there with Black & Blue on the use list.

I don't believe I've ever seen that plant around. I just looked it up and it sure does look like a bat! haha Where did you buy yours?

I bought salvia 'Black and Blue' last year, but unlike many didn't seem to have hummer visits to it. I bought a little four pack of 'Summer Jewel' this year, and the hummers stop by all the time. (I have a feeder too - they go to both.)
