Having The BEST Year!

I have been dancing on air, round my house. Nearly all but the newest purchases of hoyas have bloomed their fool heads off, and made me SUCH a happy lady!

H. kerrii with sap dripping. This is the one I repotted this spring, so worried that I had cracked the stems as they were leaking.

Without sap yet, kerrii

H. carnosa "Krimson Queen" blooming up bouquets

H. pubicalyx, blooming for the first time in five years of ownership. I would love it if anyone would try a stab at a name, Red Buttons, or Pink Spash, or the other one...

Tree grove NoID, probably a carnosa, but smells like roses!!!

H. austrailus v. tenuipes

H. bella

Bella close up and personal.

All your Hoya blooms a gorgeous but I like your pubicalyx the best!! Man, waiting for that pic was like waiting to give birth!! haha!! I still say it's "Royal Hawaiian Purple" It has to be, with leaves that dark (pic of leaves at the house plant gallery) Congrats on all your blooms!!

ps..My "Red Buttons" buds open fully tomorrow. They're half way right now.

They are so lovely, congratulations for having such a great year with your blooms. How many hoyas do you have now? Are they all kept outdoors?

    HI Cena,

great pics of all your blooms.....they are all very lovely..I agree with Lydia, the pubicalyx bloom is very nice...I had a question about your australis...is that the first time its bloomed for you and how long have you had the plant?..

Great pics of BEAUTIFUL plants and blooms Cena!
I almost said red buttons on the pubicalyx, however the little star shaped things in the middle (I forget what they are called) are not dark like they are on red buttons. There is one in the upper middle that looks like RB, but most have white tips on the stars. They should all be dark maroon red for it to be red buttons. So...not sure which it is.
I had a bunch of blooms this year too. My serpens even bloomed. I don't know if it is because of the strange weather, the messenger I used in the spring, the fertilizers, the good light, or just because they are older and it's about time. Ha. Anyway, congrats on yours.
It must be nice to be in your home and have that nice big yard and plant room now instead of just the ballcony. That "pain-in-the butt" Home Owners Assc. did you a big favor in the long run, didn't they?

The austrailus I have had nearly three years now. It was blooming when I brought it home, it bloomed for a short while after that, but never again, until now.

All my hoyas are outside, hanging in a 'carrotwood' tree. Rosemarie Ro knows the real name, and has one growing in her yard too. This tree is great for plants, but incredibly messy, with small white flowers year round, and purple berries that the birds just LOVE, thus the nasty, yucky, staining mess!

I have 13 different hoyas, three of which I really shouldn't count as just barely past cutting-rooting-in-water stage. I also lost some nice ones this year to mealies, and crowded conditions in the plant room.

I never did get a handle on linearis, and lost it. I really didn't ever see it growing, but I guess it did... How can you really tell?

The smaller leaved hoyas wrestle me to the ground in defeat Every Single Time!

Oh, I have a shepardii who can't make up its mind whether its dead or not, either. So that would be 14.

Thanks everyone, I really attribute all this to Eleanors VF-11. And my cool tree.

Cena, gorgeous blooms and pics!! Gives us all hope. I have quite a few hoyas but they mostly just give a bloom or two on occasion. All of mine are inside though except for some smaller plants started from cuttings. Although my Australis ssp. tenuipes put out many blooms all at the same time late winter/early spring last year. It was my second year to have it.

Is your hoya bella green or varigated? I can't be sure from the lighting in the picture. Anyway it looks extremely full and happy. I've read where most people seem to have trouble with the varigated, including me! Should have just gotten the green one instead!

I just may have to break down and get the Eleanors, so many people seem to be having great success with it.

I have found Eleanor's at drug stores. In fact the one Rite Aid up here sells it in gallons now. I mostly use it for adding to my mister bottle for foliar feeding. I usually mist them with it a couple times a week. For fertilizer in the "watering" water, I alternate between Shultz Houseplant food and Peters Super Bloom food. Also, I occationally add Superthrive to the water. In summer I also just spray the ones outside with the hose every other time I water just to rinse them off good and make sure water runs through their pots to flush them out. The plants in the house don't get watered as often as the ones outside that dry out faster. Needless to say...I spend a lot of time watering and spraying around here. Ha.

    Yay, Cena!!
I know you'd been waiting for this....beautiful! Congrats!

I had tried the sample of Eleanor's, but I just don't think I had quite enough to go around to be able to notice a difference.

I'm 'in the market' for a new fertilizer, so I'll have to get some!

Way to GROW Cena! Your plants are so lush and full of blooms! Color me impressed!!! You have done well!!!

Awesome! California must agree with hoyas!

Hi Cena-I too have had a great year. Never before have I had seed pods and blooms like this year. I hesitate to broadcast my luck for fear of "Murphy's Law" kicking in, but what fun it is when all of the pieces fit and the plants outdo themselves. Lead on!!! s

Wonderful!!! Sounds like you are having good luck as am I. I realized yesterday I have a bloom in just about every stage. Such beautiful plants.

My publicalyx hasn't bloomed yet, but I don't think it's old enough.

love the pics, thanks for sharing!
