Hummingbird Garden

Attracting hummingbirds in zone 4

I live in Minnesota (zone 4) and would love to attract more hummingbirds to my garden. I was on vacation in Duluth MN last fall and one of the homes near our hotel had a shrub in the back yard which the hummingbirds couldn't get enough of. Someone told me the name but,I've forgotten though I believe that it was an annual. Does anyone have ideas for perennials or annuals that are hummingbird magnets for zone 4?

Bee Balm is a great perennial. It comes in reds and pinks. My dad (in Wisconsin) had a red one, and the hummers loved it. This year he planted 15 more! I put in a few too (I'm in North Dakota) for my hummers when they are sick of the feeders.
