Well after careful consideration I went and bought a Cross vine today at the garden center. This was after reading all about the horror stories associated with having a Trumpet Vine and how invasive it can be. So now that I have this Cross Vine I am wondering what kind of pole or other support I should put it on.

I was planning to dig a hole in the middle of my back yard which is what I was going to do with the Trumpet vine too but after reading about how the Trumpet Vine would require a strong support( reinforced steel sunk in concrete) and 6 armed men with machetes standing by to eradicate any stray seedlings, well you get the picture...

So what do people recommend for the cross vine? Can I use an Obelisk? Do I need a big heavy pole? I am hoping it will be something I can do myself without the help of heavy muscle but my son is coming up on Mothers Day so suggestions are welcome. The dirt in my yard is rock hard clay by the way.

Oh and by the way, I have baby Trumpet vine seedlings if anyone wants them. I grew them thinking I would use them before I realized they take 3-4 years to blossom by which time I could be dead already. I can send them to you through the mail if you think I don't have to declare them as dangerous like the plant in the Little Shop of Horrors!
