Now yer talkin' when you mention Masquerade. I suppose it is my very favorite small to mini plant ever. I now have purchased three of them, with a total of six eyes to date, and I cannot wait for them to multiply and divide. I also have Munchkin, which is the green form of Masquerade so they say. Wish I could remember who it is on our forum who has Masquerade in the border, because that is what sold me on getting Masquerade.

I have Tot Tot, which is small, then the longissima and clausa species which are lanceolate, and Chartreuse Wiggles and Curly Fries, which make a nice spiky round-top mound. I thought that The Razor's Edge was going to be smallish, but it is very vigorous, and has already filled its 8-inch pot. It has red petioles, but with the top so lush, you have to brush them aside to take a peek at the petioles. It is a candidate for eye level viewing, still in a pot.

I am very pleased with Kinbotan and Golden Tiara, which have a big hosta attitude, although not a heavy substance so far anyway. Just how big does Whirlwind and Ann Kulpa get? Both are lovely plants, might work under the maples.

I think you have discovered a way to deal with your maple roots. Plant more minis, and perhaps have a groundcover look with a pattern of Masquerade and some other yellow or green fast multiplying mini.

Ilovetogrow- You need to wait a few years if you get tc's.

So far Cat's Eye has been the smallest at 1/2" wide leaves. But mine died. May have to re-try that one. I've had Gaigin in a shallow 1.5" deep dish for many years and it is doing fine, but I don't think it is as small as Cat's Eye.

I got this Radiant Star directly from the originator (Chris at Hallson Gardens, just last year in April. Thick leaves and a very fine plant.

I would suggest looking for Kifukurin Ko Mame - it is a wonderful tiny mini in my garden.

I'm liking that Radiant Star. I looked for it on the Hornbaker website, they don't have it listed but they do have Radiant Edger. Two more for the want list.

I made a mistake on the original pics I posted. What I posted of Itsy Bitsy Spider is not IBS. It is actually Bubbatini. I have most of the tini series. I think I am missing two of them.

[May 1, 2017] I think I have Itsy Bitsy Spider, but I've yet to see "the-greens-of-their-spikes' yet from last year. Last year I started with six (6) of these and lost two (2) of them. IF Itsy Bitsy Spider survives then I think i have a decent chance of pulling Popcorn through to get my first year (ever) of a 100% success rate.

A side question to this is: Does Itsy Bitsy Spider still reign as the smallest hosta available on the retail market at 6 inches in diameter?

Follow up: Itsy BItsy Spider Survived last winter and is currently trying to grow up storm. Although it survived with ONLY two divisions.

Popcorn never made it, and my Faithful Heart some how jumped-the-gun and 'took over' the space (I'm still not sure what exactly happened!)
