Dutch Gardens: Agastache 'Blue Fortune'

AgastacheMan and others: Dutch Gardens is having a 50% off sale on selected plants. One of them is this Agastache 'Blue Fortune.' Does anyone know if this is a good hummer plant, or just nice in general? It's described as having a width and height of 36"-40", and the photo shows it having lots of blue-purple flower spikes.

Original price was $12.95 for one, now $6.48 - or two bags (of bareroot plants) for $11.98.

Any comments, good or bad?

Following up my own posting (blush), I didn't mention before that each bag has THREE bareroot plants in it.

Blue Fortune is a butterfly plant, my hummers will occasionally investigate it, but never show any active interest. Nice purple spikes, and I also like the dried spikes in winter

It reseeds all over the place! It will take over your yard Ward they had your acapulco at smith and Hawkins for 1.25 also salvia guaranitica black and blue for 1.25

confirming Sarah on the seeding - I'm pulling it out all over the place. and the hummers don't visit it, either, that I ever saw, more of a bee plant. also it opened up and sprawled after a long heavy late summer rain.

Like it was mentioned, "Blue Fortune" is a bee, butterfly, and even a great moth attractant. I consider "Blue Fortune" to be an "improved" foeniculum cultivar, but nothing more. The headsare thicker for drying, and the foliage exhibits better alkaloid production than regular "honeybee series" foeniculum. Seedlings are great, because you can invite benficial insects around the yard, unless you deal with hundreds, then I can see why they can be a problem, but an easy one to combat.

Hi,

I only have one small 15x15 bed that is in full sun. I have had a 'Blue Fortune' there for about 6 years and haven't had one seedling from it yet. As a matter of fact I wasn't aware that it was a reseeder.

Not sure what the reason is. The plantings come up pretty thick there, but other plants have had no trouble reseeding, like cosmos and aslepias incarnata. The bed is bordered on all sides...the street, the driveway, a walkway, and lawn, so that keeps down seedlings traveling too far, but still..every year I have lots of cosmos and butterfly weed and lemon balm and bronze fennel seedlings coming up, but no blue fortune. I bought 'honey bee blue' this year as a plug and growing it on in a pot. It has branched out nicely and is blooming before the blue fortune.

These are the only agastaches I am growing though I love many others that all you lucky people in CA can grow. I had Tuti Fruiti and a few others and they died over winter the first season.

I've never had it reseed either, and it has been in my garden for quite a few years. This is a hybrid isn't it? Somewhere I read the other parent was Korean Hyssop, somethings that reseeds like mad in my garden.

I planted three of these this spring. I have plenty of room for them to spread. I guess I will find out next year if they seed for me or not.
