Looks like basil to me...Agastache aurantica cultivars like Apricot Sprite have grayish-green new leaves and are much more lance-like than this rounded-oblong basil leaf. Leave it to the seed company to put the wrong genus in the wrong packet.

unless I got the labelling mixed up on my winter sowing containers, this is an apricot sprite, on the left next to the ruellia wild petunia. I'm not sure. no blossoms yet to tell, but maybe someone could confirm it from the foliage and it would be instructive that way.

Yes, please do. THAT looks like what I thought was basil. Looks like I got the plants mixed up. (Blush)

Yes, Mimi, I have enough for everyone on this forum. It is growing in pots and in about three different spots in the ground.

Standard, it may be, but the leaves sure look too round though. Let us see the flowers when they appear.

is it possible that apricot sprite seeds would revert to a parent?
I tried to be very careful with all the seeds last winter, but it was my first attempt at winter-sowing (which is great, by the way) and 2 labels faded, cleome and columbine, but I fried the columbine early as seedlings. the cleome are 2 and 3 feet tall, and the largest has flowerbuds on it.

Here is a picture of my Apricot Sprite which Stand's seeds came from. This one was grown from seed last year. You can see the flowers on it for determination which shold be the same as stan's when it blooms

So how much growth can you expect from Apricot Sprite from seed the first year, and when does blooming start? It looks like a plant that would make a patch with a shout, which is always fun. Did the hummers like it?

It only got about 16-18 inches tall ( think 18 inches is max height for this plant. It was grown from seed and started blooming in late June or early July I believe. It bloomed the rest of the summer right up until frost. I did eventually put two of them in the ground and overwintered one inside because I only had 3 and it wasn't supposed to be hardy here. They stayed green at the crown all winter here in the Buffalo/Niagara region buried under the snow. Right now the 2 that were planted in the ground are about 10-12 inches tall. The one I overwintered inside is now in the ground but not growing quite as fast. I think it is trying to establish itself first. Yes my hummers last summer were all over it.

This looks just like the plants I potted in a wide, low container, thinking they were basil and that I would be cutting it often. Now I will have to try and separate and repot.

Rub the leaves and then smell them If it is the agastache and not basil you will be able to tell by the smell of the leaves.

Hey Stan hopefully Agastache Man will set us straight. Since I would hate to know that I sent y'all the wrong seeds. But that is what mine were labeled as. My plants are just starting to bud out so they aren't in bloom yet. Wish they would hurry up.

hey, penny! great to see you online! I bet you are correct. agman asked to see them once they bloomed out. they are indeed apricot colored and tiny little sprites. I love them no matter what they're called. thank you for the seeds.

I love them too Stan that is why I have 4 of them in the garden. I didn't have much luck with germination this year. I think my containers dried out too much with all the heat so I am going to try for more next year. Last year's plants are doing great though and have gotten much bushier.

BTW, the leaves are greyish green but I would have to describe the leaf shape as more like an arrowhead as opposed to lance shaped of my A. Cana.
