From all the articles and books I have read, I do not feel that they know for sure. One article that I read said that Ruby Throatred males have a territorial range of about an acre. Others think less and some think more. When it comes to Hummingbirds the science is not there. One reason is that they are so small they can't be tracked like many other bird species. I know that I have one resident male on our 1+ acre.
I am hoping with the advance of technology scientists will soon be able to uncover many of the mysteries of our beloved Hummingbirds!

It would be interesting to know this.
Right now, I notice a grown female and I have the great pleasure to have two juvies.
I have never seen the male, wonder what he is doing???

Im not exactly sure how many regulars I have at the present time. But I can tell you that the following video is typical at evening feeding time. Why do I have so many visitors on my small lot, have no idea.

That's an interesting question that I have wondered about. I often see my hummers leave the feeders and tear off across a field of weeds to a houseing addition a hundred or so yards away. I of course can't see them for more than a short way, but I've always assumed there are feeders over there, and blooming plants. Makes me think an acre is a little bit small for their normal feeding range.

I have no secret recipe although I do use a slightly sweeter than some mix 1:3 . When its hot consistantly like it has been lately , I change the mix at least every two days sooner if it begins to look cloudy.

Very nice vid! There certainly are quite a few; I've only seen two males at once in my yard, and they usually try'n chase each other off. I've witnessed one collision, and it sounded like a newspaper hit a fan; they seemed ok though. Later that day I witnessed one repeatedly perform the mating dive, so perhaps they were fighting over a female.
