I'd root them in soil, I know that works very well. They might root in water, and hopefully someone how has been successful that way will check in. As to rooting powder, I've been successful with and without.

Was Ward say just stick them done in some soil and keep them watered. Sometimes I put them in a pot with potting soil and sometime just take my shovel and make a deep slit in the dirt stick in the cutting, pat dirt back, and water. This is how I do most of my broken limbs.

That fellow ward was being inarticulate, as usual. I put them in pots, out of the sun, and well watered. Now if you're lucky enough to live where you can expect regular watering from tropical storms, by all means, just stick the stems in the ground. All seriousness aside, I recall reading quite a few posts by folks that do exactly what mimidi does and are successful. But again, regular named storms will probably improve your success.

I do need to add that I stick them close to a water hose hook up or where my a/c drips water. Both areas are in shade and both stay sorta damp. The dirt (soil is sandy).

I would suggest covering them with something like a cut out milk carton, to retain humidity. Last year I was rooting dozens of plants under a plastic storage container - cheap mini greenhouse - worked very nicely.
