Looks like a female ruby throat to me, though if it is a juvenile hummer it could be a male or female. I am sure someone with more knowledge of juvies will chime in soon.

Considering that you are in Wisconsin I would think that Ruby Throats are just about all you would see.

I did an enlargement and it appears to me to be an adult female. Juvies are very hard to verify male and female as you stated, only by their actions and they may not be as filled out as the one you pictured. Of course Im probably wrong.

I just managed to get some more close ups pics of her ( have added them to my blog http://mywisconsingarden.blogspot.com/) . I am so excited this is the first time I have had a hummingbird in the garden, and coming from the UK the first time I have seen them. I could sit and watch them all day, but it is a little hot out at the moment!
