That's interesting. Isn't this out-of-season rain where you are or are you getting the effects of the monsoon that finally got underway (enhanced by the remains of Emily and soon Gert)?

jenny: This is more or less normal for up here. Was told when we first moved in 4+ years ago that we would get monsoon type conditions in the summer and it's been true at least the last couple of years. Hwy 74 going down towards the desert has been blocked off by the Highway Patrol for the past hour or so. They must have a mud/rock slide somewhere blocking the highway. (Changes a 30 minute drive to a whole bunch of hours to go around the long way.)

Thanks for clarifying about your microclimate Frank. :-) We ended up with a pretty big thunder bumper here early this morning starting around 3:30 - 4am and going on and off until now (as I watch the sun now emerging, soon to begin to boil the air until it is a soupy mess). I was surprised as it wasn't really forecast that I recall (although they have had scattered showers in the forecasts for weeks now here).

are that many birds at a feeder common? ( I am VERY new to hummingbird feeding)....I still have to put out my first feeder) Hopefully this week.

masondad: Yes, but only at our place. (And maybe a couple other scattered across their migration path!) The three most important things in attracting Hummingbirds is; location, location, location . . . and we just happen to be in just the right place!
