Check out the FAQ section in this forum. It's extremely helpful.

If you want to be able to photograph hummies...try using a feeder that has a perch...elsewise you better be awfully fast with the camera :o)

The saucer type like Hummzinger are excellent.

Whatever you do...don't go out and buy those expensive and fancy looking glass globe type feeders - they leak the majority of the time!!!

As for the nectar solution...make your own using a 1:4 ratio. As in one cup of sugar to 4 cups of water. Boil the water if you wish and store any left over solution in the refrigerator. If you only have a few hummies...make a smaller amount like 1/4 cup sugar to 1 cup water. Uhm...do let it cool before you set it out for the hummies :o)

The hummies here frequent the flowers and feeders and usually go through 1 quart of nectar a week...unlike Frank's hummies who go through gallons and gallons of the stuff :o)

hi, butterflyhunter, welcome! cat provided a lot of good information there and the faq page is really good, too. look for a feeder that is easy to clean thoroughly and change your nectar often. I bet you get a picture soon.
I haven't tried the verbena yet. it's my first year with tithonia and I really like it. it is really orange.
visit often and keep us posted.
