Hi Ken--- Are you keeping the feeder nectar fresh? Changing it every two or three days whether they empty it or not. Use the 1:3 mix sugar to water. Hummers are spooked by movement although while working in the flower garden I have had them hover right above my head. I sit at my pc not two ft away from my window feeders, sometimes they are spooked by my movement but they eventually get used to me being there. If other hummers come around they will be more into protecting their food source than what you are doing.

Yea... I change it every 2 to 3 days, for a very long time. I guess this is why I am so discouraged.

I hope I did not scare that male away last night for good. I was sitting at the table with the lights out and working on the computer. I guess I was glowing cause when he came up to the window he took one look and flew not to come back.

This has been a strange hummer season for sure. I am seeing very little in the way of visits at my feeders and nothing at the flowers. Past years I had them coming and going from dawn until dark. This year if I get up pre dawn and sit where I can watch a feeder, I may see a male zip in and out. Then nothing all day long and just before 9 pm I may see a male again and if I am really lucky I will catch a glimps of a female. It has been a very dissappointing year for me.

On our rainy July 4th I saw a female about 22 times through early afternoon and then saw a male 4 times in the late evening. Since then, visits have really dropped. I've seen the female only twice and the male's visits have dropped to at most once around 7am and once shortly after 7pm. I sure hope there will be more over the coming weeks.
