I don't know for sure, but I think that they usually lay 2 eggs and can have a second and maybe a third brood in some areas. I recently read that nests are sometimes found with 3 or 4 eggs, leading to some speculation that this is due to egg dumping by other females. also, from another source, that 80% of all hatchlings of all bird species will not live to see their first birthday.
figure maybe 2-6 eggs a year with the odds stacked against them? does that sound right, folks?

Hi Catnappurr. No idea about how many babies they might have in one year, but there are many experts on this forum who will know. I think I have one juvenile in my yard who only recently showed up but I have been unable to get a picture. It is camera shy apparently.

Here is a photo I took last year. The tiny hummers' were 7 days old. I had been taking photos everyday since finding the eggs/nest outside our garage. There are usually 2 eggs.

Loved seeing the little ones.

I have no idea about babies. I have never seen a nest in use nor a baby. I did find a next that had been blown out of a tree last year.

I only saw one hummer baby in flight and that was last year. At first I thought it was a bee but after a minute realized it was a hummingbird. The cutest little thing.

I see little ones now come to the feeders. Costaricafina do you grow the bird friendly coffee? I always buy that kind from central America. Sarah

It's not organic, but definately bird friendly! We have thousands of bananas growing between the coffee plus many other trees. We have huge colonies of 'Montezuma Oropendulas', lots of toucans, and 'collared aracaris'.We've identified over 75 differant types birds from directly of our deck.
We have just sold the farm, but are still living here.
