Help--hummer in garage!

I hope some one can help me--there is a hummingbird in the garage and I've tried everything I can think of to help it get out. I broke branches off a nearby crepe myrtle and propped them to draw it down lower so it can fly out--we have a high ceiling. I put a pot of red and pink flowers on top of my car so it could see the opening. I hung a bright pink object in the opening to attract it but it stays up high and just perches on hanging wires etc before flitting off. I don't see how it can stay alive much longer. The garage door is up and it is dark now--I feel so bad about the poor thing.

He died! I went out after I posted and he was lying on the floor beside the car--I am heart sick. I laid him in a bush just in case but he was so still and barely warm and obviously dead.

I know you feel badly if it is dead, but are sure it is dead. I say this because hummers can go into a state called "torpor" in which they seem dead. Hummers will fly into my open garage to the red handle and fly back out. my ceiling is covered so they cant go anywhere usually but right back out, but my garage is just average height too.

Thanks, hummersteve, for responding. I put the poor thing on the branches of a spirea bush next to where all the others are feeding last night and he's gone--hopefully he recovered. To prevent another fatal attraction to the red garage door handle I covered it with black electrical tape. I don't want to go through this again.

We had the same situation a couple of years ago. My husband (who quite handily happens to be 6'7") just reached his hand up to the little guy...he was so exhausted, he landed in my hubby's hand and let him guide him out of the garage. Also had 2 get stuck under our canvas gazebo last summer, and we did the same thing. Both times, the hummers just rested in his hand until they could move away. One little guy was so tired, I had time to go inside, get him a fresh spoonful of nectar, and come back out before he flew away. It was amazing & I was mighty glad to have a tall man around!

I had this happen daily last year when we were having to leave our garage doors open for access to the power panel during a construction project. Everyday for a week (no kidding), a male hummingbird went in there and we have very high ceilings. We think he was attracted to my husband's bright red tool storage drawers.

I took our long handled swimming pool net...but did NOT use the net. I held it up to the hummie and he always perched on it and let me lower him down and out the doors. I can't think of any other wild bird that would do this, but the little fellow always watched me fill the feeders and was nearby when I was gardening.

Hopefully, your little guy recovered okay after his rest.
