You lucky thing! Would you mind sharing where the nest was, low down, high up, near the house, how you found it, etc? I would love blow by blow details, everything.

It must have been thrilling to see them fledge.

Catherinet, the *Wild Bird Guide: Ruby Throated Hummingbirds* says the two eggs are laid a day apart, and yes, babies fledge a day apart.

I'd love to hear more details about the nest.

Here is a photo....one chick had fledged and actually returned to the top of the crape myrtle and the mother fed it while I was there

mehitabel........thanks for that info! This nest was on a lower branch of a big hackberry tree. The branch was about 8' off the ground. I have found 2 other hummer nests in the past. One was on a lower branch of an oak tree and the other was a branch of a white pine tree.
This recent one was right outside our barn.

Catherinet thats a great photo!!! I think anyone who even finds an nest deserves an award, lol. I can't believe this is your third. This one was found for me and a friend called so I could photograph. It was outside of a bedroom window on the second floor of a retirement complex.

I've only been fortunate to photograph close enough Cassanovas & Ms Speedy Gonzales but have never have seen a nest of eggs nor fledgeling jewels.

Blest I thought I was, at the time to have observed an Ms Speedy tending to a very ill Cassanova (I thought was an infant) ~ at least I got to see how a lady RTH is truly caring & mothering even to another adult! Could he have been her mate, could I have been of more help ~ she didn't mind my helping out a bit?!!! (I posted in another thread)

Actually, my husband found this last nest. He was working on our riding lawn mower by the barn, and kept wondering why he was hearing that low buzz that hummers make. He looked around a little, and there it was!

ditas......that's amazing that you saw a female tending a sick male!

One time, I was sitting on the deck with a neon pink shirt on. One came and hovered in front of me, as if to say "I think this is a big flower, but I can't quite figure out where the nectar is." haha

I saw some robin babies fledge once and it was really a thrill, but hummers! So tiny and elusive. It's like a gift that you were allowed to share that.
