That's so funny. This spring my dh and I were sitting in the Hot Tub on the deck and Mrs. Hummer came right up to my face and hoovered as if to say "Hello, we're baaaack!
She really scared the heck out of me. I called, "Ok, Ok, I'll go get your feeder!!!

I know what you mean. I was sitting outside last evening having a brew , minding my own business and two hummers came buzzing by my ear not two inches apart and as I watched them soar way up high then back down still not any farther apart, they couldnt care any less that I was there.

Last summer I got a black eye from a hummer. We collided and it hit me under my eye and knocked my glasses off. My eye swelled up and I imagine he or she was hopefully uninjured as he wasn't laying on the deck! It was the strangest thing.

Bet that black eye explanation got a few, 'yeah, right' and raise eyebrow looks.

If you're going to get a black eye, I can't think of a better way to get one!

It's always a thrill just to see the hummers, and I never understood getting "buzzed" until it happened to me. I got my first buzz last year, and I was buzzed again this morning, by 3 very feisty hummers. I normally don't see much activity in the mornings, so I'm thinking these are migrators, probably duking it out with my regulars. Needless to say, I was late for work ;)
