I have seen the hummers go occasionally to the butterfly bushes in my yard to nectar, but more often, they like to perch high on them, getting ready to face off with eachother. Ruth

The butterfly bush gets sampled but doesn't hold their interest. Here, they want agastache and black and blue salvia.

Same thing here...the hummies take a very very quick try at the butterfly bush and fly on.

Well I just watched the juvie male seriously work the butterfly bush. He was going to several flowers on each flower head, at times even sitting on a nearby branch while working several of the flowers. Then another hummer came to use the feeder, which is about 6 feet from the butterfly bush and he felt the need to chase it away. I now have a turf war going on because this little guy thinks the feeder and the butterfly bush are he personal space and does not want it encroached upon. I've watched him 3 times in the last 15 minutes, chasing another hummer away as it comes to the feeder. Feisty little guy, considering he seems to have just showed up this week.

I had one check out my white buddleia. Either she really wasn't interested or was turned off by the amount of carpenter bees on it. I have another "Pink Delight" planted next to my hummer bed. I haven't seen any of the hummers visit it, just plenty of Eastern Swallowtails.
