I have also observed this in the past. I have found that most store brands are not cane sugar but beet sugar. I do not buy sugar unless it says pure cane sugar on the bag.

Wow... I did not no there was such a thing as beet sugar. I'll have to take a look at my bags. Is there a difference? Why are they not required to say beet if that is what they used?

Is there a difference when it comes to using it as a sugar water?

If it doesnt say pure cane sugar then it is beet sugar. As far as hummer use goes I can detect no difference here so I go with the cheapest since I go thru so much sugar.

Beet sugar isn't quite as sweet as can e sugar. I can tell the difference myself. When I have bought store brand sugar for the house (for coffee, cereal, tea, etc. I use more than I do of cane sugar. I notice it more in coffee or tea. I generally buy my sugar at walmart and their sugar is labeled pure cane sugar.

The store brand pure cane sugar that I've purchased in the past, is usually "lumpy" so I use the Domino brand. The cost is not much more than the others and I find a distinct difference in the quality.

I just checked my store brand sugar, ShopRite, and it states pure cane on the bag. So I guess I got lucky with my store brand.

What a timely post this one was for me. I bought two bags of ShopRite brand sugar the last time I went shopping and on the bag, as I mentioned above, it states "PURE CANE." I went shopping today and all the bags on the shelf now just say "PURE."

There must be a reason for them to change the printing on the bag. Is there a difference between pure cane and just pure?

The bag Im using now also just says Pure and Im sure its just beet sugar. I believe domino says pure cane premium sugar. It may be sligtly sweeter but right now Im not sure the hummers are picky as they are just bulking up. The reason I bought what I have is there wasnt any cane sugar available.

I also usually get my sugar at walmart but they do not have cane sugar , period. I would like to find some pure cane sugar just to compare and see if it makes a difference with the hummers. I use artificial sweetener in my coffee.

I buy C&H pure cane sugar.
