I do believe it's a buff bellied. Just haven't quite figured out if it's male or female. Am leaning towards male as the beak has just a little black and this one is extremely territorial. Afterall, it figured out it could sit under my back porch and keep watch on all the feeders along the length of the eave.

The ruby throated are giving it a run for it's money. Those are quite territorial as well.

I use Sheri Williamson's field guide. It's such a great book! Awesome photos of the hummies, their heads, tails etc...which make it perfect for hummie identifications.

It's beneficial to photograph and see other's photos of hummies sitting still...it helps identify the species, gender and age...but am still trying to learn all my camera features so it's a good thing this locale has plenty of hummies and butterflies to practice on :o)

I usually try to get close up shots of hummies at different poses...or using my home-made feeders - but alas...most hummies move too quickly and I'm just too slow :o)
