We have noticed a decline in H-birds at the feeder for the last two days (NW MO)and we don't know if it is the fact that we have had substantial rains recently after drought conditions and plants and flowers are blooming again. I can attest that plants are blooming again because I got stung by several bees today while pulling weeds from one of my flower beds today and I can't repeat the conversation I had right after that happened!!! The older and more expierenced birds may have moved on to migration and the younger ones have a bit to learn. The barn swallows seem to be almost gone and maybe we are to have an early winter...if only they would talk to us! We are going to try to keep better records (on paper this time instead of relying on memory) as to when they arrive in the spring and when they leave in late summer...those kind of things have become more important as we have aged! This has certainly been a fun year with the H-birds though...they inundated us with their antics for almost 3 months with contant entertainment, probably because it was so hot and dry but nontheless...what a show!!! We will continue to enjoy the ones still here for the time being. Before we know it will soon be time to watch for the "I can deal with it" winter birds.

I'm down here in south Texas, and each day, I'm seeing more of them at my feeders and flying around the yard. They usually start showing up down here the end of August, but it looks like they are showing up earlier this year.

Hi Kendra - RI here/ and so far my sweet ones are still here in fact....... the feeder was quite busy today since I have lured the bees to the far back yard with old sweetened watermelon lol. Will seem so lonley with them gone/ but already have plenty of peanuts for the titmouse and dees.

Sarah,what part of PA are you in? I'm in the northeast and I cannot keep track of all the hummers here.I have so many of them and they have been here quite a while now.I figure they are fueling up for the long trip.Is sugar cheaper then gas? lol Guess the hummers know better than we do,if only we could find a car that goes on sugar water!
I am not looking forward to the day that I do not see any hummers at all,I will be crushed! Right now,I love how they zoom around me when I am filling the feeders for them.My lasy sighting of a Hummer last year was Sept.26th.Everyone seems to say that they are migrating earlier this year.I sure will miss the little ones.

Koke I'm in southeast Pa. outside of Philadelphia in Lower Merion township Montgomery county I saw two today so far yesterday I saw four so I don't know I think it's pretty normal now about a month ago and the beginning of August I saw quite a few. I saw my last one around the last day of September last year. Sarah

Feeling quite sad, I think my one little juvenile has left. Today is the only day since I first saw it three and a half weeks that I haven't been blessed with its constant visits at 10 to 15 minute intervals. Yesterday it was in my yard all day feeding at the flowers and the feeder. It also hovered inches from the patio door once which was great because my mother was here and we were able to see it so close...we were right at the glass.

Mine seem to be a little more infrequent today so I am assuming that some may have started heading south. I really hate it when they start leaving as I know they will soon all be gone and then winter will be on the way.

What a relief....my hummmer has not gone yet. It showed up at around 6:15 and used the feeder and B&B until it got dark. I am sooooo happy. He probably found a good nectar source in somebody else's yard today (He should have told me what time he would be back, LOL.)
