I've heard of coon dogs and rabbit hounds, but this is the first hummer hunter! Think your dog figured out what you have been looking for? German Shepherds are pretty smart (we just lost our 9 year old a couple weeks ago).

heres another one...I am just getting use to posting pics...excuse the resolution..anyways we started off with 2 that would fly away when we got near...our yard has since turned into an airfield...I think they check us out as much as we check them out,,,they really are amazing creatures

WOW, great pic of male hummer. I've only seen a male at my feeder 3 times this year and never when I had the camera ready. Also, the male doesn't seem to stay very long.

I wish "my" _hummingbirds were as bold as this. I can't even open the back door, which is about 30 feet from the feeder, without scaring them off.

Wow! He is a pretty fella and looks like the doggy got hired out as an extra feeder guard!! LOL

today was an usual day...they got bold today...it was amazing....they dont even mind the dogs...that one male was guarding the feeder and chasing away all other hummers that came near...it was wild..he would take a sip...then fly about 2 feet from the feeder...then just hang in mid air waiting for his friends to come close...my wife had to duck a few times...they were so close we could even hear them churping...never been like this before....hopefull it will be a regular thing...

I had a day like that recently where I saw 4 hummers going all over the y-a-r-d chasing and fighting each other for the feeders. There was humming and buzzing all over the place. I just sat back with the hugest smile on my face watching the show. :-)

The air battles are the best part of hummies! Of course, if anyone saw/heard me out in my yard when they are dukin it out, they'd know for sure I was crazy bout these babies!!! I'm usually laughing and explaining to them as they zoom by that I'll get more juice if they'll just share..there's plenty!!! Great pics of hummies, and your guard-dog!
