Look out, Frank!

You're going to have some competition, Frank :-) Photographic proof that I have more than one h-bird in my yardd...I know there're more because there's the constant twitter and buzz of 'em all around me, but I can't catch them on film or disk... OK, so maybe you don't have to worry just yet.

I used to live in a multi-story building and had an apartment on the 4th floor. When we first moved in, I wondered if the hummers would come up that high and we bought a feeder and hung it out. We soon had daily visitors and at one time I counted four or five hummers. It was like a scene right out of WWII with four hummers fighting for space at the feeder. It sure was a sight!!

We bought our own house (less then a half mile from the apartment) and we kept meaning to set out the feeder. I think it was the location feeder hangers as they're in the back yard and we don't often sit out back. I know, I know.. just because we can't birdwatch from our lovely sofa dosen't mean the little guys woudln't have appreciated the meal.

I'll have to look at fixing a place close to the front patio area for the hummers as I know they're in the area! I was talking to the neighbor today and here comes this hummer that flew RIGHT up behind his head and hovered there for a second looking right at me as if saying THERE you are... why haven't you been feeding us!!

We both felt really bad about moving and hoped that the little hummers we enjoyed watching would somehow find us at the new house. Hey, they can't find us if we don't put out the welcome mat, right?. I have two new planting beds planned for the back yard and will be planting loads of hummer friendly plants next spring!

Shannon - it's amazing that they come to hi-rises. I'm on the 18th floor and they have come up to my floor and have regularly used my feeder and plants - AND I have watched them chase each other way up in the sky above the roof of my building!

Where is Frank? Has he moved from his place in California,or just left this forum? Will miss seeing his humor and photos.

Bob in Ky - Looks like your Sad Migration thread got pulled also as well as Frank's Embedded Advertising thread, where he said goodbye, along with CC Croulet. I will miss their humor and photos and expertise also.
