Very cool, Linda. It's good to get the correct information out there. Yesterday we were riding around looking at homes for sale and saw a yard with 2 hummingbird feeders--one had green food coloring and the other blue!

Are you sure that was dye? I bought three little "light bulb" feeders at Lowe's this spring - one is red plastic, one is green plastic and one is blue plastic. The hummers love them.

I have those Ellery. I used to buy that red dye food until I read the how-to's here on making your own.

I have some of those red/ blue/ green feeders too; the hummingbirds seem to be oblivious to the odd colors and they're a big favorite. They would look like they contain dye if someone was unfamiliar with them.

I have never seen those--that may be what they were. We were driving down the street looking in their yard, so I did not examine very closely. I really couldn't believe someone would use blue and green colored water! Maybe I jumped to the wrong conclusion--I hope so.
