I use 1lb. Folgers plastic coffee containers. They are large, red and easy to make. I put four holes 1" from the bottom, evenly spaced. Make a bale(sp) for your "bucket" out of wire and use screws to fasten it to the top of container. I use coat hanger wire to make my feeding holes. Just heat a piece of wire and push it through at a 45 degree angle and clean with a razor blade. I also wrap the wire in red pipe cleaners. You can paint on them if you wish (great fun for kids on a rainy day)or decorate them to your own tastes. The lid has a 1/4" depression on top and holds just enough water for the hummers to take a bath in. It's wasp-proof,bee-proof and rain-proof. The best part, it's as good as the store bought basin feeders , and it doesn't cost $30+ dollars.

I think that is great! I too would like to see a picture of your Folger's Feeders and you are so right...you can't beat the price.

I have quite a few feeders....several saucer styled feeders that I make myself (some of the components have to be purchased in major quantities wholesale), a Perky Pet bottle feeder, and a first Nature bottle feeder. My hummers use all of them equally. The juvies seem to find the bottle feeder easier when the first get started so I keep that one around.

Hey Everyone!,

I would like to post a picture of one of my feeders, but I have two problems.

#1 My camera is in the shop.

#2 I have a picture with instructions that I made with "Paint". It was a bit map image, but I saved it as a Jpeg. For some reason it won't upload on any web page I use (i.e. yahoo!, webshots etc. If one of y'all would like to try to post it, please email me and I will send it to you.

My favorite feeder is the Best-1 because the base comes apart in two simple pieces like a Hummzinger, but it has larger capacity (32oz), more ports (8), and replacement parts available. It also attracts fewer bees than others because the ports are so much smaller and can't leak, plus the birds like the double ring of perches. They also have an 8oz bottle for it.

Back to the original question - I use Hummzingers. They are just the easiest to clean. I prefer the minis. More ports doesn't matter because I have NEVER seen more than two feeding at the same time and I believe they were nest mates. I picked up two more minis for 9.95 and one excel for 11 bucks for next year. I am going to try to saturate the food supply. Will undoubtedly be adding some folgers cans too!
