Hummingbirds mating in September

We live outside of Houston and have a feeding frenzy with our hummers and two feeders. Today we saw what looked like the described mating. They fly parallel up and down several times and then stopped on the ground for one second.

Could they be mating here this late in their migration?

I would think this late in the season, females would not be receptive to males. However, last weekend I had a juvie at my feeders that was the smalest hummer I have ever seen. She couldn't even fly very well or perch on the feeder without getting out of balance. I think it was her/his first day flying.

Your in Houston, and there is enough time for her to raise two more, barely!

I wouldnt be the one to say they wouldnt be mating there in texas since I dont know how long they will stay there before moving on. Males sometimes do that as a warning to other hummers in protection mode.
