Correction....Salvia spathacea aka "Hummingbird Sage"

I am assuming you are in So OC Ca, right? I am in the Saddleback foothills as well! I saw my first returning Rufous the other day. Actually heard him first. Just planted Red Autumn Sage today in the front. Trying to switch some of our plants over to drought tolerant. May as well feed the hummers too!

No way, you get Rufous' in the Santa Ana Mountains? I've never seen an all-Cinnamon hummer....I've seen Allen's near LAX...they're Cinnamon w/ green on their back & crown.

Have you ever visited Mission San Juan Capistrano? They have hordes of Anna's there...it's awesome to watch.

Actually I have had a Rufous, and Calliope, plus Costa's, Anna's and Black Chinned, oh and Allens! I will have to figure out how to add pics!

It is best to edit/resize your photobucket images to "Message Board (640 x 480)" before you post them here. Otherwise they're too big. This too can be done in PhotoBucket.

I have to take more photos and analyze them....

You have a better eye than I do. Anna's markings vary so much around the crown, throut, and eyes that I may have spotted Calliope or Costa's and just wrote them off as female or immature Anna's. The call of the Calliope does sound familiar, though.

How do you do it? Their different sizes?

that I started really paying attention to them. Plus I got Sheri Williamson's book, which is awesome. I think we are so used to Anna's, we just need to look for something a little different, or that has a different sound. Today I have heard a little Allen's just going to town, chasing everyone away from my honeysuckle. Last week I saw/heard a Rufous. They have a distint whirling sound. The Calliope is the one I couldn't believe. I have to get my book out and take a pic to verify it.

I am sure they are here and you have them as well.

I have 5 regular feeders and 4 walmart specials up in the back and one regular feeder in the front.

Glad to see I am not the only one out here that enjoys the little fellows. My family thinks I am loco and calls it Tweetyville, when I am out watching and taking pics.
