Hummingbird Migration

Does anyone know how long the Hummers stay at one location during their migration? I now have about 10 at one time where I would only see 2 or 3. I love to watch them dart and fly around, but they are running all the other birds away that feed on the seed feeders. I did not want to take down the Hummers feeders to soon. When should I take the feeders down? Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks Jackie

Its best to keep your feeders up till mid Oct. or even later for any late birds comming down from up north. The juveniles are the last to leave.

It looks like the Hummers are slowly moving out. Its really quited down in the south jersey area. Last week they were fighting over the feeders, and now there is one lone Hummer around. Hopefully there will be another group pushing through soon.

I was just about to ask a question regarding the migration.

Does this mean I might be getting some passing through as they come from the north?
I live in north Georgia.

I live in NW GA and leave a feeder up year round. I have a friend who lives a few miles from me that had a Black Chin show up in Nov. Then in Jan an Allen showed up. The Black Chin and Allen stayed for another 2 weeks. Two hummingbird experts from AL came and caught the Allen. It had been caught and banded in Chattanooga,TN the week before.

I have had a lot of hummers just in the past 2 weeks. For the first ever there has been 4 feeding at once at the same feeder. I handfed one 2 days ago. What a thrill that was. So, yes phloxmom, you should be seeing many hummers. Where do you live in north GA?
