Fall Migration

We had a tropical storm move directly through south Texas. When I got home from work that day the rain and wind had stopped, but my balcony was a wreck from the wind, and worst of all my regular hummers I've had all summer were gone.

Well it's that time of year, sad to see my regulars go. But yesterday a male RT showed up. He has all the blooms and three feeders all to himself. He has stuffed himself and mostly just perches. He is the first male RT I've seen since June.

Anyone seeing fall migration going on in your area?

Here in WestTN, most of my adult males left this week, but nectar consumption is slightly higher, so there are probably migrators mixed in with the residents.

well my last hummer left sept 6th here in northwestern ont canada. Had about 40 in total thru the summer and fall sad to see them go considering they are only here for 3 months

I haven't seen an adult male in about 2 weeks, not even one passing thru. Just an adult female & a few juvies I'm noticing regularly. My last hummer sighting last year was September 14th, two females. Sigh; it's almost over for me...

Well, the male RT keeping me company for the last two days has headed south for the winter. It seems so strange to look out onto my balcony and not see them.

I need a cold snap to bring everything back into bloom. Then hopfully I can feed your hummers for a day or two on their way south.

My friend and I are starting to see some come through our area in Central Florida. She has had a couple for the last couple of weeks, not sure if there are 2 or 3 or if the same ones continue to show up.

I had my first of the season show up on Aug. 28th, a male and he stayed until the Sept. 1st. Then we saw one on the 5th - a female I think. Didn't see another until the 10th, now I have a female or could be a juvie and an adult male and possibly an immature male.

Lots of hummer activity in my yard. I have 7 feeders and lots of natural nectar sources. Am typically seeing 3 or 4 birds at any one time. Haven't spotted the first winter migrant (Rufous, Calliope, etc.), but that's ok.

This was the activity at my house this afternoon. Just a few adult males left; can't tell the migrators from the residents...

Well I went for a few days with no visitors. Today, much more activity, and surprisingly my northern travlers heading south through here are using my window feeder. They obviously have been using someone's window feeders and are comfortable with them. A nice male RT with brilliant red is with me at the window. It's good to see some color again after a summer of females.
