What a great idea! They must be so easy to clean out. How do you make the hole in the lid?

Do wasps bother these feeders much?

The first ones I did, I drilled the hole, but it left sharp edges, after that I simply punched through the top with a small phillips screw driver, it rolls the sharp edges to the inside of the lid.
The wasps dont seem to bother them because #1 they dont leak, #2 the hole is too small to get inside, #3 they cant reach in deep enough to get to the nectar.

I helped my stepdaughter make some of these a couple of years ago and she was thrilled seeing the hummrs use 'her feeders'

Amazing shot usaf! I love that feeder - I have seen them made when I went to a HB seminar at a wildlife center here in CO. We were cautioned though to punch the hole with a screwdriver and be sure the rough edges are inside the lid. After punching the hole BE SURE to hammer down all the rough edges on the inside of the lid. Even though you can't see them from the topside they are really sharp and when the HB's go to pull their tongue out they can get brutally cut.
