My Annabelle needs some help

I have 2 Annabelles planted in my backyard (faces west) and this will be there 3rd Summer. They both get a little wilted in the amount of sun they get there, but if I keep them watered well they do ok. Their second season in, my dh planted some pumpkins nearby and they ended up strangling one of the Annabelles. Last Summer, the one annabelle didn't really come back that nicely, and her branches are all misconstrued giving her a weird shape. I am planning on pruning both of them this week (at the advice of a local nursery---he swears annabelle will have stonger stems if pruned hard in the Spring.) I could swear I had read just the opposite, but at this point I'm learning there is no black/white right answer EVER when it comes to gardening. That drives a type A person like me---crazy. But I digress....

So I trust this man---he is the most reputable nursery owner in Cleveland---been in business 50 years.... so it's not like I'm asking a teenager at Lowes. So I'm going to prune them both, but I'm wondering (and forgot to ask him when I called) will my little deformed Annabelle come back---is there hope for her or should I rip her out and plant another? I'm trying for a hedge there (will be planting some incrediballs mixed in with the 2 annabelles) so I don't want to mess around with another Summer of that one being deformed if there is indeed no hope to re-shape her.

Lastly, how long does it usually take Annabelles to reach their fully grown size? Mine seem kind of small being that they are 3 years old. What do you think?

Here's pics:
