re: propagation of cockscomb

I don't know if this is the right forum for this but here goes -

I had these beautiful hybrid florist cockscombs, some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. I brought some of the past fresh ones home and shed their seed in the garden. This fall I've noticed some plants that have foliage resembling the cockscomb foliage, but the blooms are single and spread up and down the stems, not like the cockscomb at all except for the shape of the single flower, and that they are reddish. Does hybrid cockscomb revert like this from seed or are these perhaps weeds that coincidentally grew in the garden.
