Wonderful site. I was going to ask if they ever came back after going thru that ordeal then I read about Orange Julius. Maybe they like all that attention. Maybe they will find out that they are smarter than the dolphins!!

Nancy is an amazingly warm lady and she travels for miles each year doing bandings around the state of Louisiana. Wish I could be there to see her in action. Please tell her that Penny says Howdy and that I hope she her and her family are getting back to normalcy a little bit. Her home in Metairie La. was spared any major damage but she has been staying in BR.

I agree, Nancy is an amazing woman! She's been banding our winter visitors for the past 4 or 5 years.

When I found out she & Skip were staying with a relative in BR we invited them to dinner last week.

Got a note from Nancy this afternoon. A Buff-bellied that she originally banded in our yard in Jan. 03, then recaptured here later that year, and again in January of this year ... was caught at a home less than a mile from our house today.

Howdy Y'All,

I am still camping out in Baton Rouge and decided to chase a few winter
hummers while I am kept from my normal life. This morning,
assistant-trainee Kevin Morgan and I made a visit to the home of Ravi Rau
and Dominique Homberger in the Plantation Trace subdivision off Highland
Road. Our goal was to catch a big bad Buffy that they've been seeing
since late August - before the storm.

The bird roared in as we were putting up the trap, but he proved rather
elusive for a while. However, persistence paid off and he went in about
10:30. This bird was a youngster when first handled at the home of Cindy
and Mike Macolini in January 2003. I caught him once again that season
but missed the next. I got him this past January as well. This guy is
probably the one that spent the summer of 2003, but I was not able to
verify his identity during the summer.

The location where he was caught was not far from both Cindy's and Carol
Foil's. He was first positively observed on 27 August at the
Rau/Homberger home, but thought to have been present a little before that.

He now wears a pink paint mark on his crown, so maybe we'll see how far
this rover boy travels.

fairy, you might luck out a little closer to home. Alan Chartier is a bander from Michigan who I know bands in Indiana, because one of his birds appeared in our yard last winter (I'm in Baton Rouge, LA).

That's fascinating to find the same bird in different states and/or different years! I want a buff-bellied in my yard (pout)
