Spots on only 1 leaf

I bought several hostas at the end of last summer when a local hosta farm was having a sale (I went to look and ended up with 8 hostas). I planted them in temporary spots (as I'm in the process of creating a new hosta bed right now). Anyway, as I was looking over my plants a couple of days ago, I noticed one leaf on a Key West that has spots.

There's only 1 leaf that has these spots - no other leaves on this hosta plant (or on any other hostas) have these spots. They are a reputable place - I've never had any problems with the hostas (or daylilies) I've bought here. Any ideas what this could be?

Frost/Freeze damage. You can actually see where there were little ice crystals in the center of the leaf.

What a relief! It seemed strange to have so many spots on only 1 leaf. I was hoping it was something like frost damage. Whew!

Looks NOTHING like the frost damage I see on mine periodically....COULD be insect damage. Frost damage tends to run in a contiguous pattern, insect damage will typically lead to necrotrophic tissue. If it turns to brown spots it likely is insect damage. Wait another 2-3 weeks and re-visit the subject with the posting of another, newer picture. The area just above mid-center of the leaf has me most concerned.....

For a better impression of what frost damage looks like, take a look at the 'Rainforest Sunrise' picture in this thread. Your spots look nothing like that....

Yup, frost damage. I have several hostas with this sort of damage on the leaves. Mainly those that are in the bed way out in the far end of the yard with no protection from the house or trees.

Pieter, the difference in the frost damage in the leaf in this post and the Rainforest Sunrise has to do with the unfurling of the leaf. I believe the one in this post had probably not unfured yet while the Rainforest Sunrise damage was on a leaf that was already unfurled.

Below is the area on subject leaf that has me question frost damage, I've NEVER seen frost damage like this....

I have frost damage on a 'Maui Buttercup' this spring that looks now exactly like the 'Rainforest Sunrise' one in the other thread, I know for a fact mine was NOT unfurled when the frost damage occurred.

Scholli, post another picture on this thread a month from now of this exact same leaf, let's see how it shows then...just bookmark this thread so it's easy to get back to...

i would go with cold damage also... frost.. probably not freeze ...

IMHO.. individual cells froze and burst.. and a week later.. they start showing..

will always defer to chris ...
