I have used the method you suggest to start seeds, it works excellent. I imagine that if you are only doing this for a couple of weeks it should work fine. Perlite has amazing wicking properties. Be sure to let us know how it goes. Good luck, Randy

i just finished this artical and havent tried it but it sounds like it will work well. its called a forsythe'pot and it is in this months national home gardening club mag. its a large plastic pot filled with vermiculite and the holes covered with a paper towel so it doesnt fall through. take a small unglazed terra cotta pot and plug the hole well and stick/burry it to the top in the center of the larger pot. water vermiculite so moist and fill the terra cotta pot with water so it will leach out into the larger pot, then place cuttings in verm. i dont know yet but its supposed to work like a charm. cant hurt to try it.

I am growing vegetable salads in a mixture of 2 parts Perlite to 1 part Sphagnam Peat Moss in a passive watering system. I am using a Nylon wick one end goes through a hole from the bottom of the plastic planter which is placed on the top of the reservoir, and the other end of the wick reaches the nutes inside the reservoir.
The plants are growing very well and healthy.
