Soil for Hydrangeas

I just ordered a Cityline Paris Hydrangea and plan to pot it rather than plant it in the ground. I know that the color of hydrangea blooms changes based on the acidity of the soil. What if I just plant it in a relatively neutral soil and don't add any additional products to it? I don't particularly care what color the flowers turn out to be. Are there other reasons to make the soil more basic or acidic, other than determining flower color?
