This hasn't been the best gardening summer in Iowa history, but as I look around at the flower gardens here in southeast Iowa, I'm amazed at how tall some of the plants are. For instance, we had daylily stems up to 5 feet, and the hosta blooms are almost that tall. I've heard of 5 foot bee balm, and in my own garden, the Inca II marigolds, without any soil amendments this year, are up to my chin.

Anyone else seeing this unusual effect?
