Cat and Mouse

Has anyone gotten the mini Cat and Mouse? I'm so tempted to get one, then I tell myself "Wait til next year." Any comments on this one?

    Hi Deanna,

I purchased one last year and it didn't come back this year. It was a first year tissue culture. I think the reason it didn't make it was because it didn't have the root system to support itself. If you want to purchase one this year you may want to ask the vendor about the size you will be purchasing and if it is a first or second year tissue culture. I know aahostas.com and Naylor's both carry it. Good luck!

I got one and it came back for me. I think it's still a single division, but looks heathy. I'd recommend it, but It's so small and expensive, you really have to want it bad, which I did.

It isn't being produced in tissue culture any longer as Shady Oaks had too many problems with it (which is what they told me when I didn't get my order from them placed in 2007, to be shipped in 2008, backordered to spring 2009, then cancelled). So you won't be able to wait too long or they might be gone - at least until someone else tries to TC it.

Just purchased a second one, from a local grower. Bought one from Naylor Creek at the Convention in St. Louis last year and have repotted it into a larger pot, with fresh mix.
For me, BME and all of it's progeny are late to emerge in the spring.
Last one coming up this year is Frosted ME, but they are first year TC's. Green ME's are also first year TC's, but they have been up and growing for several weeks, as have the BME's and it's other offspring.

You might check yours to see if it's still hiding!
I was about to toss a couple of Itsy Bitsy Spider's (2nd year TC's) and found that they were just slo-o-ow to appear above ground!
One still has only a singe leaf about ¼" long. It's in intensive care.

I got 12 TC's in late fall. They over wintered in the greenhouse, but I still lost 4. At first I thought the others had reverted, but the variegation is showing now, more of a light green on green right now, but I suppose it will lighten up.
I got Frosted Mouse Ears and Holy Mouse Ears in July, I think,
they are coming back also, and seem to be a little stronger
    stock than Cat and Mouse.

I got mine from Naylor Creek. I ordered one, and got 3 separate divisions wrapped together. I put them all in one 6" pot. They came up fine this Spring, and I have four eyes showing.

My other two, Frosted and Holy came with only single divisions last year from Nature's Reign (the originator of Blue Mouse Ears). They sent me teeny, tiny, single eyes last year , first year tc's. They have come up still single eyed but those single eyes are stronger, larger, and have bigger leaves than last year. I'm very pleased with all my mice.
