Goodbye Bedroom - Hello Big Kitchen

I love the island. We went with this shape ( like a number 7) because it fit best in the space. This shape works so beautifully for working around the stove. The company that installed the granite broke the first piece. There was only one joint beside the the stove which was a few inches long. YIKES. Anyway they cut another piece and were able to do it again with the small joint. Much to our begging. The granite is called "Volga Blue" It is amazing and one of the most expensive granites you can get. Pictures don't do it justice. It looks like there are pieces of abalone in it and when it catches the sun it's stunning.
I also love having the extra sink in the Island for prepping but wish sometimes the garburator was under the island sink.
I love the heated floors and also love the black appliances. Only disappointment is the back splash. It's clear tile so the cement cracked as it dried and I don't like to see that through the tile. I heard after it was installed that there is a special cement for this type of tile but the guys who installed obviously didn't know about it. They came back and fixed the worst ones but it never really fixed it properly.
Love our cup handles too. I thought they may look like they need cleaning all the time but they don't and they feel great too.

Thank you so much everyone :) I am thinking I may change the back splash. The cracking cement I can see behind the clear tile is really bugging me. Not sure if I should stay with a light or white or go darker. What do you think?

How much did you spend on just the cabinetry?

we just built a house and installed Volga Blue granite, too. It is breath-taking! The tricky part now is trying to find a backsplash that will go with it and med/dark cherry stained cherry cabs. Kudos on your beautiful kitchen!

We have Volga blue in our kitchen as well! Like you, they broke the first AND second piece when they installed it, but for that we got it for free in our laundry room too! Stunning kitchen and nice choice on the granite.

andj32, what did you use for your backsplash? What color are your cabs? Thanks much!

Our cabinets are a medium maple color but we can't decide on a backsplash yet. Was going to post a picture on here soon to get some suggestions because we just can't picture what would go with the black granite and the cabinets.
