a couple from Keppel...

I haven't had much time to organize the 800 photos (!) I took last weekend at Schreiners, Keppel and Mid-America. I learned a lot about hybridizing from observing these 3 very different operations, but mostly I walked abound weak-kneed from all the beauty (and 98 degree heat). Fortunately I had enough strength to click the camera.

These are two of my favorite photos of Keith Keppel's luminata patch:

I have real respect for gmason who manages to match up seedling numbers and names with photos. I think I only got about a quarter of the tags matched up, and I'm not even sure about a couple of those.

Wow-o-wow. I'm getting week-knees just looking at the photos.

I read that luminatas have white style arms. Does anyone know if this is correct?

That sounds likely as it would add to that "inner glow" but I didn't really look.

In one of his catalogs Keppel mentions "problems" common to luminatas-- very early bloom and floppy or open standards, but I have to admit I was glad they were early (or I would've missed them) and they were so beautiful that I didn't notice any floppy tops.

He has some knockout luminata seedlings that are blue-black, but with that luminous edging. Yow!
