Superstition's introductions for 2008 are posted at this link:

I love "White Hot"--really attention grabbing. So is "Arctic Burst."

What are your thoughts?

    Hi Mike,

My picks are 'Arctic Burst' and 'Silent Sentry'. I'm very happy to see that people have kept AB's incorporated in their hybridizing efforts. It doesn't hurt that SS is gorgeous either.

I like all of the others but somehow they feel like I've seen them before. That said I'm still happy to see a hybridizer that's so selective that they're only introducing 5 this year. I've seen other's introduce piles of new iris every year and I wonder "Are they all really the ideal intro?"

That's all just my two cents, but you asked for thoughts.

In many instances it is deja vu all over again! So many Joyce Terry 'types' and New Moon 'types' are introduced every year, when, in some cases the original has not been superceded.

    Hi,
First, I should say that I am an iris newbie compared to most on here. I have been growing irises for only about five years now.

I totally agree that so many new intros look like the same things from before (especially the "Fogbound" children--gold beard on FB, red beard on FB, orange beard on FB, etc....hope that doesn't offend anyone--I realize FB is a great parent, and I love it in my garden). "White Hot" looks different to me in that this red bearded white has those gold shoulders. Also, everything from Superstition seems to grow SO well here. I would love to purchase "White Hot" to see how it does since the only white I have is rather slow growing now. I am really looking forward to "Celestial Explosion" from Superstition blooming this spring. It looks really unique, to me at least.

I am quite fond of Superstition--seems their intros are great growers. I received "Shadows of Night" as a bonus last year and it looks like a very vigorous. One of my very favorites is "Golden Panther" by Tasco. I personally hope it wins the Dykes Medal this coming year. Uniquely beautiful and just a colossal grower here in Zone 8 for me.
    One I wouldn't part with.

I love Arctic Burst -- all the purple dots. Very beautiful.

In response to a private email, I didn't make myself clear. I didn't mean to imply the Superstition irises were deja vu. They most definitely aren't!

If you will follow the thread, I was responding to the preceding post and not to the heading.

Sorry for any confusion I caused.
