Someone just gave me a bearded iris named Cheerio or Cheerios. They have had it a very long time. Are you saying there is no such iris? It is tall, yellow and very vigorous.

I have a "Cheerio" registered by Ayers, 1934. It's not yellow. It has light purplish-wine standards, yellowing toward the center. Falls are purple-wine, beards yellow. Is this the REAL Cheerio?

Sorry I can't be more help but the one I bought off ebay that was called cheerio is the above secret plan and it is kinda red and yellow, very pretty but it is definitely not yellow.
Cheerio also does not come up in the AIS database with a description. In the 1939 checklist it is described by S9D, which means it is a blend from pink to red and a bitone or bicolor, or that is what I got from it anyway:) Indian Chief X ? is the parentage.
And marvine gave you the year and hybridizer.

I guess the person who gave it to me must have been wrong about the name because this is golden yellow. He probably mixed up several cultivars. This is an old and outstanding plant but I guess I'll never know its real name. Thank you so much for your replies.

I had Cherrio when I was a youngster in grade school. I would dearly love to have it again. Does anyone know who lists it?
