Fungus on Coral Bark Japanese Maple?

i planted 2 of these in the spring.The leaves seem to wither a bit, and the obvious black shoots at the topsÃ¯Â¿Â½.I pruned them , so there were only small examples to put in photo.Light fertilizer , and they have a daily drip hose every day.I know Verticillium wilt is common for Japanese MaplesÃ¯Â¿Â½hopefully i can control thisÃ¯Â¿Â½In pruning, i didnt see the black ring on the inside of the pruned branch
Any ideas would be great!!

when i bought these in mid April(long island ,NY)they were potted.There were obvious plackened stems at the tops that were prevelant, but the trees looked great otherwise.Conditions have been on the wet side.I have fertilized them lightly with 18-24-12,and they are on a drip for every day watering and the sprinkler hits it too.The leaves look very light,as if they are malnourishedÃ¢ÂÂ¦tree is in full sunÃ¢ÂÂ¦.we have had a few days in the 80s, but not too bad yet.My concern is verticillium wilt
