It appears you have a large front lawn so I would put in a generous planting bed that extends from the far edge of your picture window to the first small window beyond your front door. If you have drainage problems then create a berm - plantings thrive in that situation. Place the tree between the front door and the large window but don't block the front door - it should always be visible from the curb. Select a few broadleaf evergreen shrubs for the "bones" of the garden; fill in with smaller shrubs that flower and change throughout the seasons; add in a few reliable perennials and some annuals - not too much - you don't want a jungle nor something that is hard to keep up.

Beautiful home. Great natural light Enjoy the maple. You'll regret painting it if you do. Everything painted will, inevitably, need to be repainted and look awful as it begins to get that way. Floors look great -- wouldn't darken them at all. Would not cover them with floor runners for looks -- would only add a good rug at the door to catch grit to protect the wood floors. If your rug were turned the other way and your sofa where the light colored chair is, any "bare" look in the living area would likely be eliminated. I definitely would NOT add hardware to cabinets designed without them -- they'll just end up looking like clutter.' Not sure the pinkish walls go with the maple any more than pink would go with yellow. Blues or greens -- flat medium shades -- would likely go better. I like the gray rug; blues would go better with gray than green. Our lakeshore house is treated professionally a couple times a year for spiders (permethrin, I think?). The co. recommends three times a year. I held out for years but once they spiders began colonizing indoors as well as outdoor surfaces, I caved! Otherwise, we do it ourselves... Dog is treated with topical Frontline to keep ticks and fleas under control. Spring invasions of ants mean placing bottle caps of borax mixed with jelly under stove (where dog can't get to it). Dog DID get into some mouse poison inexplicably in a snowbank last season, so we are looking to end use of THAT. She was very lucky in that we got most away from her and got her to vet quickly--we discovered that new formulations (Tomcat's at least) are nerve poisons, not blood thinners, so all vet could do was force vomiting, give her activated charcoal, etc. So-o, for mice we are headed back to traps. Sorry to say that we have also had to control a huge population of chipmunks, which were beginning to get into walls. A bucket half-filled with water, the surface covered with styrofoam peanuts and a floating dish of sunflower seeds, plus a plank from step to lip of bucket. Chipmunks can't resist. I don't like to think about it... Husband live traps skunks, woodchucks, etc. that burrow under garden shed, releasing or disposing of them depending on species. Downy Woodpeckers... I enjoyed watching them on suet on deck in winter, but inadvertently led them to consider our redwood siding as good nesting/shelter, actually getting into a small attic! We thought for a while there that we would have to replace the siding. I stopped feeding near the house, which we festooned with shiny disks and streamers. (I think woodpeckers are spooked by fast-moving light reflections--like shadow of a hawk?) The onslaught slowed, then stopped. Husband patched the siding with hope it will not be necessary to replace boards and sections. In late summer, we trap yellow jacket wasps with apple juice baited traps we fashion from plastic water and pop bottles. (Google for instructions.) Our efforts seem to reduce the numbers after our food and drinks on the deck.

Two chairs flanking sofa sharing coffee table. No end tables. Big art of woman left of window. Standing lamp there at far left corner, maybe keep desk there, maybe move it to dining wall far right of entrance. Black bench under window. T.V. left wall with one of the white bookcases as a media table. Black glass shelf to dining wall. Other White bookcase vertical to right of window. A large plant there in that far right corner. Any art (I like all of your art) left over put on left wall of entrance, now the t.v. wall, to right of t.v. If you have room, put a lamp left of t.v. on the white bookshelf that is on floor horizontally (as you have it). If you have no electrical outlet on that left wall invest in getting one. (You don't need new curtains or carpet. They can work. Just need new coffee table and to move things about. Maybe a throw as suggested and standing lamp, another lamp, and some elbow grease).
