This past week, I came across a blooming iris in Washington DC. I have never seen an iris blooming at this time of the year in this area! The iris was a traditional purple-blue color, the flower was similar in size to a blue flag iris. The plant, though, was between 4 to 6 in. high and the leaves were not flat. They were totally upright and were rigid and curled in to form a C (in cross-section). Anyone know what this is? It is not any cristata that I'm familiar with. Is it a US native? Thanks for the help.
