Hard to tell from that photo. Is this an early iris? Is the color true? Or is is a darker blue purple?
It may be I. germanica if it is early and the color is more blue.

It is two-toned, dark purple and blooming right now. Thanks.

That looks like the purple one that is seen growing in everyone's garden. I think it would be almost impossible to name it.

If it is blooming this early it likely is one of the i. germanica clones. How tall is it?

Probably 20 - 24 inches and looks just like the photo I finally found of i. germanica. Thanks everyone!

Does it matter?

Doesn't really matter; I love them. These were given to me along with some others and I had no idea what color they would be. Some are the light lavender with the grape scent, and then these bloomed this year for the first time.

It looks like I. germanica. There is also a bright purple iris (it's more a royal red-purple than germanica) called Iris kochii that's common in the South and blooms this time of year.
