iris foetida invasive?

I discovered these Iris in our old garden and looked them up. Seemed like a miracle that they like shade and wet conditions (and dry conditions). I love the seed pods when they open in the Fall and stay on all winter, and the Spring flowers, while certainly not impressive, have a charm.

Anyway, I took some of the old dried up seeds and planted them in other shady places around my garden. They are now a weed! They have invaded our lawn which is next one of the beds where I put them. Really - there must be hundreds of them! My husband just mows them, and doesn't mind them because they are green!

I was just wondering if they are famous thugs & invasive in other people's gardens too - I had obviously not realized that, although now that I think of it, I have seen whole areas of them in old/neglected gardens around here.

Thanks -

Jackie
