Help with June?

Need help please! This is the plant I bought as June. The leaf in the jar is also June, are they really that variable? The plant almost looks more like pictures of Great Expectations (which I don't have) I have another Noid that looks more like the leaf in the jar than this one. They are all in different light situations.... Is the real clincher the flower?

To me the leaf in the jar looks to be June at an early stage. But yes I believe it is H.June. Gary

Here is a pic of my June today. June, in my experience, is one the most variable hostas there are. Like a chameleon, it varies widely based on exposure, light conditions and moisture........You can have two in the same garden that look very different even.

I would LOVE my June to look like that!! The one at the Hosta farm where I got mine looked much like yours. Mine is quite yellow, nothing at all like yours. It looks more like ON Greenthumb's, only more yellow, with just a hint of green on the edges.

Yep, that's a 'June', and a BEAUTIFUL example of the variety. Enjoy it.

Boy that is a beautiful hosta.
Last night, I intended to check HostaLibrary.org for just one plant, and that led me to the MYHOSTAS.BE where I became lost in the Sports section.

One of the families that I was lost tracking from generation to generation of the family tree, was June. What a diverse group of hosta come from the same bloodlines (so to speak). I recommend it to anyone wondering what part of the family DNA is popping up in your particular hosta....June is a good example, with its great potential for variability.

Thanks Gary and leafwatcher and eclecticcottage for your comments. Thanks for posting the picture greenthumb. I think you all have just convinced me that the other 3 noids that I suspected might be June probably are....Ken your input is always appreciated too, and I would gladly let you have this June.....Come and get it any time! Probably a roadtrip for you as I live on the north shore of Lake Ontario

Hey Mocc, I didn't mean to leave you out. I think you were posting just as I was writing. There is also an interesting site in UK that has some great info on plant families and generally in their newsletters. Search Mickfield Hosta

Not to worry, Jag. I am aware of Mickfield Hosta, but haven't explored the site all that much. I like to see the leaf photos. Thanks for telling me there is more available than that.

By the way, I'll put a link here for you to a way to compare two hosta images side-by-side at the Hosta Library. Link below.
It's at the same website that hosts Don Rawson's Lists.

Here is a link that might be useful: Compare Hosta Library images

*waves across the lake at JagD51* HA! I live on the south shore!! How cool. I probably drove past you last fall. DH and I got an insane idea one day. Rather than just going to NOTL, which we had planned, lets drive all the way around the lake-in one day! Yeah, we'll not be doing that again! Some very beautiful areas after you get away from the GTA (I hate cities). Port Hope was like a step back in time, such lovely buildings.

Thanks Mocc for the link, that's cool. Chris- it's never too late to join the party, and ecclectic, if you were on Highway 33 you may have come right through our farm...next roadtrip?
